A Saturday in the Life of…
The Liquid Café at 1100 Davis Street in Evanston, IL is a neat place with wi-fi connection, tons of whole garlic bulbs, chicken salad sandwiches, bagels, coffee, and other items for the pallet or just to enhance reading or surfing the internet. It is at the Corner of Davis and Oak Avenue across from the post office and right down the street from the Evanston One-Stop employment center. I stopped in today while out riding my bike and shopping for glasses. I took a seat by a counter near the window where someone had left both the Sun Times and the Chicago Tribune (my lucky day).
I had noticed a lady kind of sitting back to the point that she was lying down near the curb but it had not registered on me that she was in distress. Some people had approached her. By the time I got my coffee the Evanston Fire Department ambulance was there, and put her on a stretcher. I hope she was okay. They were talking to someone in the ambulance afterwards. I think it must have been her. So I guess she was conscious anyway. I did feel kind of vaguely guilty for a minute but then realized that it looked as if they were going to take care of her.
So, I read the two papers, and drank my coffee. I then rode my bike up Green Bay Road, and there were all these people with purple shirts on. Oh, they must have been going to the Northwestern Game. That’s right – it’s the first game. They are playing Eastern Michigan. According to the NU website there are six people at East Michigan who are either players or assistant coaches and who are also formerly of Northwestern.
