Bennison’s Bakery in Evanston, IL

Bennison’s Bakery, currently under the direction of Chef Jory Downer, serves up some mighty fine bakery items in Evanston, IL.  Jory won some sort of medal in France recently for his baking.  Check the gold cup out at the bakery.   My recommendation for the early morning at Bennison’s is a cinnamon roll with a cup of thier coffee.  The cookies are good, too, and the éclair is out of this world.

The Bakery is at 1000 Davis Street in Evanston–about a block east of the back door of the Davis Street el station, and less distance than that from the Davis Street Metra Station.  It is also just around the corner from the Evanston One Stop Center at 1615 Oak Street at the Employment Office in Evanston.  You’ll forget you’re unemployed after eating one of the bakery’s tasty treats.  Rumor has it that the state employees from the Employment office hang out there, and you might get an answer to some of your “what if?” questions some early morning while waiting in line at Bennison’s.

Most people just come in, order what they want, and abscond with the goodies.  There are three small tables, however, if you just can’t wait until you get home or to work to feast on the sweets.  Happy eating!
