Candlelight vigil for “rolling fast”

Starting August 6, five Evanston faith-based groups are taken turns in a “rolling fast”.  These members are protesting the U.S. war in Iraq and are participating in the movement, “Troops Home Fast”.  They are demanding the immediate return of American soldiers.

These fasts continued through Saturday.  This means, for participants, only water will be consumed for 12 or more hours a week chosen by their congregation.  This Thursday, a candlelight vigil at Fountain Square will take place at 7 p.m.  The vigil is sponsored by North Shore Coalition for Peace and Justice and American Friends Service Committee.  Thursday is also the International Day of Peace, designated by the United Nations in 2001.
