Cross Rhodes at the Main and Chicago Avenue Cross Roads in Evanston
In Evanston, Cross Rhodes Restaurant at 913 Chicago Avenue, 847-475-4475, remains one of my favorite places to eat after 20 years of dining in the area. It is at the high end of my budget; so, I usually eat there only on pay day or some other special occasion. When I was trying to eat healthy for awhile, I would have the vegetarian pita sandwich with cucumbers, onions and Feta cheese. I would order an extra piece of pita bread because they piled the sandwich so high that I could make two sandwiches out of the generous helpings of cheese, cucumbers and onions. When I am not diet conscious I like the chicken in red sauce with Greek fries. Yum. Yum.
I usually walk there or ride the train. I am not sure about the parking during regular business hours but Evanston Bank is practically next door, and I would imagine that you can park there during non-banking hours. The women’s room is small but clean.
I looked them up in the City of Evanston’s health department report, and they had a 95 on the first routine inspection, and a 92 on the second routine inspection. I actually thought they would have done better than that. They seem like clean freaks to me. I have noticed that they have a rather small area in which to cook the fast food. The wait staff sometimes go back to a room in the back which I guess houses the ovens.
Check it out for yourself sometime.
