Evanston briefly effected by storms

Monday was a dark and gloomy day, a constant drizzle falling from the sky, with no chance of the friendly sun popping out.  So I guess it doesn’t surprise me that Evanston suffered from two small power blackouts within an hour yesterday.  According to Commonwealth Edison officials, wind, rain and a failed power transformer caused the blackouts.  It sure was a nasty day out there, so I suppose nasty things should come from that.   Not only did it effect Evanston, but it also effected parts of North Chicago as well.  Just about 2,500 ComEd customers in South Evanston and North Chicago had to rely on flashlights and candles for the afternoon, as they were without electricity around 1:30 p.m. on Monday.  A transformer failed just right before 1 p.m., leaving 16 north Evanston homes without power for an hour.  Luckily things these days are quickly restored and we don’t have to worry for long.
