Get Fruity with Farmers at the Farmers’ Market in Evanston, IL

It’s at the intersection of University Place and Oak Avenue in Evanston IL. You know what kind of people go to Farmers’ Markets? People that can wake up and walk out the door between 7:30 am and 1 pm and get to downtown Evanston IL.  This mostly includes healthy people and those who don’t want to pay outrageous amounts for organic produce and flowers, along with city of Evanston IL locals –joggers mostly, at that hour.

A note about organic produce before I go on. We suburbanites (those in the city of Evanston included) are used to all our groceries being neatly labeled “organic,” along with earthy-toned, rustic packaging. Most vendors won’t have such labeling. All you have to do is ask the vendors, they’ll be happy to tell you what’s organic.

Then, bargain for a lower price. No one bargains anymore – spread it, people. I want to see the city of Evanston IL like a Moroccan street bazaar in a few years.

There’s more to the Market than produce, though. There’s also meat, cheese, bakery goods, and even flowers more exotic than the Evanston IL flowers.

Step out of your element and shop for produce like the laymen did centuries ago. Forget the packaging, the preservatives, and the air conditioning.  Be prepared to be handed your produce and flowers by those who farmed it.

That is, if you can wake up in time to get to downtown Evanston IL or if you’re staying at one of the Evanston IL hotels make sure to ask them for an early wake up call — this you don’t want to miss.
