I took the path along the Lake…

Swimming is no longer permissible in Lake Michigan on Evanston beaches.  But you can still walk or jog along the lake front, and it is indeed a peak experience to do so.  Watching the sun come up over the lake in the morning is another endorphin releaser.  When it gets light enough you can also read those little instructions for exercising next to the fitness gear at various places along the lakefront.  The exercise helpers were put up by the Rotary Club in recent years.
I was talking with the daughter of my elderly friend Bernard once about the pros and cons of walking on paths near salt water and those near fresh water.  She said “The smell of Lake Michigan is not the same as that of the sea at Martha’s Vineyard (where she usually vacationed at the time.)  I replied: “You mean, no dead fish odors?”
Okay, I admit it.  I do miss the Gulf of Mexico near which I was brought up and where I sometimes spent a couple of weeks in the summer. But I also love the Evanston path by Lake Michigan, and feel exhilarated watching the waves slam against the rocks on stormy days.  I even enjoy the serenity of tranquil Lake days.
