Kafein…

Kafein, a bohemian style coffee house at 1621 Chicago Ave in Evanston, IL  may not be the best coffee house in the world but it has a special place in my heart.  The reason I like it so much is that on my last visit there I won’t say I got hit on but this young man did let me read his poetry.  I was very uh … surprised.
The place is crowded, and it is hard to get a seat especially late at night.  Tables and booths are reserved for parties of two or more.  But hey, if I hadn’t been sitting on a couch I wouldn’t have gotten to read that lad’s poetry, would I have?
The food is good, and the coffee is not bad.  They do have a bottomless cup.  Kafein stays open until the wee morning hours.  The décor is entertaining.  I have tried reading a couple of the books but most of them were filler types.
It is near the corner of Davis Street and Chicago Avenue, not too far from Northwestern University.   It is a few blocks from the Davis Street el station.   A lot of Northwestern students hang out there but there are “townie” clientele as well.
