Man receives 18 year sentence for 2005 slaying
On Monday, an Evanston man was sentenced to 18 years in prison after shooting another Evanston man to death at The Keg restaurant, 810 Grove St. in Evanston. Antoine Hill, 20, of the 1500 block of Greenleaf Street, was originally chared with first-degree murder in the June 2005 shooting death of Robert Gresham, 22. Hill pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in exchange for the shorter sentence. It’s the same old song and dance, the two men were fighting over drugs and money, Hill pulled out a revolver and shot Gresham before he could even react, and ran from the bar. The courtroom in Skokie was full of chaos and people yelling, after Hill asked the judge if he could hug his own young son, which angered the family of Gresham. It’s good to see people getting locked up for such violence, and hopefully the system will keep its word and not let him out on probation in a year.
