Playing Tennis in the Parks in Evanston IL

Evanston IL has many parks, but only 11 of them have tennis courts. I’ll rank them in increasing number of courts.

Burnham Shores, Lakefront between Dempster and Hamilton, is one I’d rank highly. It is on the lakefront, and is near downtown Evanston IL. There isn’t a basketball court, no baseball diamond, and no soccerfield. Just two courts, a restroom, a playground, a sailboat launch, and the lake. You could play a game, go to the lake, then go out to eat in downtown Evanston IL.

Cartwright Park, way to the northwest on Grant and Prospect, has two tennis courts. It also boasts a gazebo and a sculpture. There’s a playground and basketball court, too.

Ackerman Park, on Central and McDaniel, Evanston IL has two courts. It also has a bathroom and a playground.

Bent Park, on Central and Cowper, Evanston IL also has two tennis courts, a bathroom, and a playground. It also has a basketball court.

Fitzsimons, on Lee and Elmwood, is a very small park with two tennis courts and a playground. No bells and whistles here, just two tennis courts and a playground. It is near the Main Street Shops and the Evanston IL Main train station.

Foster Park, on Foster and Ashland, has two tennis courts. It also has a playground and two baseball fields and two basketball courts. The Fleetwood Jourdain Center is located here.

Mason Park, near Church and Florence, has two tennis courts. It is near Downtown Evanston IL. Four Basketball courts outnumber tennis courts and there is a soccer field and a playground. Restrooms.

Leahy Park, on Lincoln and Ridge, is located near Northwestern University. There are 4 tennis courts. Tennis courts outnumber the baseball and softball fields, which only have one each. There is also a restroom. This is a great park for tennis.

Crown Park, on Main and Dodge, has four tennis courts. Crown park is one of Evanston’s larger parks, with three baseball fields and two soccer fields. The fields are heavily used for athletic programs, so if you prefer a more private setting, this isn’t for you. The Crown Center is located here.

James Park, on Oakton and Dodge is one of Evanston IL ’s largest parks, with 6 tennis courts, 8 baseball fields, and 5 soccer fields. There is a fieldhouse and community gardens. Again, if you prefer a more private setting, this isn’t the tennis court for you.

Lovelace Park, on Gross Point and Isabella, is the only other Evanston IL park with 6 tennis courts. It also has soccer and baseball fields that are used for sporting events. This park also boasts a pond and a restroom.
