Property tax increase in 2007

4.9 percent.  That’s the amount that was approved on Wednesday by the Cook County Forest Preserve District for a property tax increase, as part of its 2007 budget.  They are also taking a step toward combining some of its functions with Cook County government, according to an article by the Tribune.
Those steps include merging the district’s finance and human resources departments with the county government.
The increase was approved in an 11-4 vote.

Commissioner Larry Suffredin (D-Evanston) is the lead sponsor of the amendments, and claims there will be an economy of savings.

The agreement will have to be approved by April 1.
