Senior Housing Spots Getting Revamped in Evanston

Evanston is in the process of having its senior housing revamped in two spots according to an article in today’s Chicago Tribune by Jane Adler, a Chicago-area freelance writer.  One revamping is by Mather Lifeways while the other is at Three Crowns Park, 2400 Colfax Street, west of Green Bay Road and South of Central Street. The non-profit Mather organization is planning on constructing two new ten-story buildings near Northwestern at 425 Davis Street and 450 Davis Street to replace old buildings already there.
Although Mater Lifeways is non-profit, the complex being built sounds very elaborate with 7 methods of dining, a fitness center, an indoor swimming pool, garden plots and 24-hour concierge.  In order to reserve a spot, the lowest fee being accepted is $299,000 for a one-bedroom apartment but the entry fee as it is called is 90% refundable.  I assume that means the rent can come out of it, and one’s kids can get back 90% if one expires before spending the entire amount on the rent.  The fees also pay for ninety days in the health care unit.
The construction at 2400 Colfax Street will house a swimming pool as well.  It will also have a business center and a library.  The project manager for the construction indicated that Three Crowns Park is keeping up with the times by moving from a medical model to a residential one.  The lowest entry fee for Three Crowns is $162,900.
