Thanksgiving Possibility at Va Pensiero
I understand that the Va Pensiero at 1566 Oak Street in Evanston, IL near the corner of Davis and Oak is offering a special a la carte dinner this Thanksgiving. At least I read about it on the web somewhere that was advertising Chicago area Thanksgiving treats. Some of the special feast foods being offered include roasted butter squash soup, grilled Braeburn Apples, and pumpkin-Ricotta cheesecake. I remember the Va Pensiero from way back when my elderly friend Bernard and I lived at the Margarita Inn, also at 1566 Oak Street in Evanston, IL. In fact, that’s where I met him. It was in the mid-eighties. The Va Pensiero, an Italian style restaurant, is in the basement to the Margarita Inn. Once the Va Pensiero Restaurant got started or at least once I knew about it, Bernard would periodically offer to take me there but the valet parking, the white table cloths, and the pomp and circumstances surrounding eating there made me feel like I would be out of my league. So, I never took him up on it. Bernard died in 2001 before we had a chance to eat at the Va Pensiero or go to a Ravinia concert together.
