The News Stand Near the Main El Stop in Evanston, IL
The Chicago-Main Newsstand at 860 Chicago at the corner of Chicago Avenue and Main Street in Evanston, IL 60202 with telephone number 847-425-8900 is an historical place. The business has had a number of owners, and was in hiatus for a couple of years but is back on the scene now complete with the original sign. They have quite a few selections, although I understand, not as many as there have been at times. It doesn’t seem as dark a place as the former business did although that could be a projection on my part rather than reality.
One year, back in the 1980’s, I bought all my Christmas presents from the store, just before departing for Alabama to spend Christmas with my sister, her husband, and my four nephews. I don’t think the store had to return too many almanacs that year. I have been in quite a few times since the ribbon cutting for the new store ownership. I bought one computer magazine there that had a disk with so much freeware on it that my computer hasn’t been the same since I installed the disk. I also like to read Psychology Today there when I have some free time. Heck, I might even buy a copy now that I have this blogging job.
