The raw foods trend makes its way to Evanston
Although it’s not quite official, rumor has it that an offshoot of Chicago’s raw food restaurant, Cousin’s, is making its way to Evanston. And that rumor was started, and stated to the Chicago Tribune by the owner of Cousin’s himself, Mehmet Ak. Ak told the Tribune that Chicago can expect the number of all-raw spots to rise again with the opening of new restaurants in Evanston, Hyde Park and Lincoln Park.
At the new restaurant (sorry, I don’t have any information) you can expect to find a gourmet meal that hasn’t seen the heat of over 120 degrees. While raw food is very popular among vegans and vegetarians, a new trend in the food selection is raw meats, and they’re not your typical choices. Among the list of recent additions to raw spots’ menus include kangaroo meat and ostrich. Now as a vegetarian, I find that frightful, however, this exotic meat could be exactly to your liking. No matter what the case may be, the food will always be good for you, and it is said that serving the food raw helps with keeping certain enzymes the food has that may be lost when it is heated over 120 degrees.
This trend may perhaps sound a bit strange, but it has high success and is growing more and more popular even as you’re reading this. So until this new fad finds its way to Evanston, try and journey into the city to give it a try. Your choices include:
Karyn’s - 1901 N. Halsted
Cousin’s Incredible Vitality - 3038 W. Irving Park Rd.
Heats, second level, Holmes Place Health Club - 355 E. Grand Ave.
